The Arkansas River continues to flow at an above-average rate but the fishing has been outstanding. As of today, we have 274 cfs at Hayden Meadows, 1100 at Granite, 1530 in Browns Canyon, 1670 at Wellsville, and 1740 at Parkdale. Our brown trout continue to hold tight to the banks and have been very surface oriented – yellow sallies (16) throughout the day, pale morning duns (16) in the afternoons, and caddis (14-16) in the evening. Streamers and nymphs are doing well too – we have been dropping a lot of beadheads off the dries when wading but mostly fishing single dries on the float trips. It has been a real pleasure to look across the water into the edge lanes and see fish working pmd emergers just beneath the surface. Many folks have been intimidated by these higher flows – too bad, because the fish are feeding hard in the wake of two months of runoff. The fishing should be great from now into October!
