Catch the Hatch in Pueblo

By arkanglers

Things are pretty quiet here in Salida. We have had some good afternoons of nymphing – no ice or slush and relatively active fish when the sun is shining. There are very, very few people venturing out onto the river at this time but we are receiving some favorable reports. Another month and the stonefly nymphs and certain caddis larvae will become much more active.

Of far greater interest for anglers right now is the Pueblo tailwater, which is consistently producing strong midge and blue wing olive hatches. At a time when folks are searching for good nymphing opportunities, our Pueblo guides are enjoying regular hatches with rising fish. That, coupled with the gentler climate of Pueblo, makes for a great day of winter fishing. Our Pueblo shop is open Monday-Saturday and Alex and Catherine are ready and able to help you find your way down there. We do offer guided wade trips on this stretch through the winter for those who desire it, but we have free maps, advice, and a well-stocked store there for everyone. Feel free to call the Pueblo shop at 719-543-3900 with any questions.

Our Holiday sale continues in Pueblo as well. In addition to discounted rods, reels, and Simms waders, we still have three different models of personal watercraft from Outcast that are 40% off! Come by, or call the shop for a list of sale items. We will gladly ship to those who can’t make the trip.

Spring is coming soon, and with it, the caddis and baetis hatches on the upper river. If you want to fish private water this spring, or join us for a float trip, we urge you to start looking at your calendar and call us for reservations. Phone 719-539-4223 or email to greg@arkanglers.com.

We look forward to fishing with you soon!
